There is a new term that is entering our slang lexicon and it comes to us from the mysterious land of video and computer gaming. The term is Epic Fail. It has come to mean absolute disaster and utter failure.

Epic Fail

“And he also that had received the one talent came and said, ‘Lord, I knew you to be a hard man… and I was afraid, and went away and hid thy talent in the earth’… But his lord answered and said to him, ‘You wicked and lazy servant! … Now take away  the talent from him, and give it to him who has the ten talents.’” Matthew 25.24a, 25a, 26a, 29

There is a new term that is entering our slang lexicon and it comes to us from the mysterious land of video and computer gaming. The term is Epic Fail. It has come to mean absolute disaster and utter failure.

Have you ever “epic failed”? I have. It was a terrible time. It was a time of embarrassment, pain and loss that I had never experienced before. I literally felt the weight of it on my body for many months. As terrible as it was, I recovered. It wasn’t permanent even though it seemed to have no end while I was in the midst of it.

In the midst of that “valley of the shadow of death”, I learned a great truth about failure, and that is the only way we truly “epic fail” is when we stop trying.  Really, really.

Have faith. It all comes right.

Prayer: Lord, my failures and mistakes are numerous, but You are a forgiving and restoring Father. Thank You.
